TODAY: National Check-Your-Body-Care-Products-Ingredient-List Day

Today, or whatever day you read this, make a conscious decision to begin reading the labels of your body care products!

Your Perfect Product

Your perfect body care products are those with the least amount of ingredients necessary. Take a second to quickly glance over the nearest shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, or face wash bottle. Does the amount of ingredients worry you? It sure worried us!

Looking deeper, into the ingredients, you may notice some names that are nearly dizzying to pronounce. One such ingredient, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, commonly found in most body washes, and shampoos has been linked to allergic reactions, skin irritation, and eye irritation. Another ingredient, Sodium Laureth Sulfate is even more dangerous according to many studies.

Why Should You Care About Ingredients?

As your body’s largest organ, your skin is crucial to maintaining your body’s balance, so filling it with synthetic chemicals may not be the best idea. Especially since your skin immediately absorbs everything put on it directly into your bloodstream; it does so even faster than your colon (80% absorption rate, vs 60% absorption).

Even though the amounts of these chemicals in your products are small, overtime they accumulate since your body doesn’t always know how to breakdown (INSERT SYNTHETIC CHEMICAL NAME HERE).

Aren’t These Chemicals Regulated?

With over hundreds of new chemicals and products being introduced ever year, it is difficult to appropriately regulate this industry.

The Safe Cosmetics and Personal Care Products Act of 2013 is hoping to fix some of these problems. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is currently holding a petition that you can sign here:
